People were fooled by the publicity campaigns. These 'stars' were not superhuman. They were ordinary people like you and me. Many of Hollywood's 'stars' were average actors/actresses. There was so much advertising with each movie that the public were hypnotised into believing that these 'stars' were in fact superior.
The film companies made a great deal of money and many unfortunate 'stars' often suffered nervous breakdowns in the effort to live up to their public images. Some of them found it so difficult that they committed suicide.

c. People believed in the image of the 'stars' that Hollywood created.
d. All actors and actresses usually had a happy life.

3. LEXICON. Find words or phrases in the text that mean the same as these given.
